The family recently launched Pasta Marina, a cozy dining room with a fireplace and Italian fare, including homemade lasagna. There’s also an onsite wine and beer bar, Guiseppe O’ Leary’s, a fun nod to the owners’ Italian-Irish heritage.

Ocean City Maryland Beach Rental

April 29th, 2010

Ocean City Maryland is a popular vacation destination for beachcombers and with so much to see and do, its no wonder that many will come this year to OCMD for their family vacation. Many Family Vacationers will log onto www.rentraffles.com for an affordable condo rental this summer in Ocean City Maryland.

Ocean City Senior Week Activities

Play It Safe Ocean City Maryland

Congratulations to the 2010 graduates as many will also make the trip to OCMD for Senior Week.
Ocean City is known for its “Senior Week” activities. Recently graduated high school seniors from Maryland and surrounding states travel to Ocean City to spend a week with friends and away from parental supervision. Senior Week traditionally begins the first week after graduation. The Town of Ocean City has a “play it safe” campaign with scheduled events to keep the graduates safe.

Attention High School grads! Are you coming to Ocean City Maryland for some fun in the sun? Do you like to dance or play volleyball or basketball? Do you like to bowl or surf the water slide? Would you like to learn how to windsurf or kayak? How about playing laser tag or paintball? Play It Safe has just the thing for you!

Play It Safe can offer you all of these activities and so much more. During June, the Ocean City Play It Safe month, there are over 40 exciting free events planned. With the support and administration of the Worcester County Health Department, it is planned and sponsored by the Ocean City Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Committee. The Play It Safe committee develops, prints and distributes nearly 65,000 Play It Safe booklets to high schools across Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Delaware just before graduation. If the booklets are not available at your school, you can pick one up at many Ocean City businesses, Visitor’s Center on 40th St., Chamber of Commerce and places of accommodation. This booklet contains over 47 money saving coupons and a centerfold calendar listing of all the free events. In addition, the Play It Safe booklet contains valuable information about potential health hazards, local laws and ordinances and where to seek help if needed.

The goal of Play It Safe is to encourage high school graduates to make informed, healthy choices while having responsible fun without the use of alcohol and other drugs. This project is a well coordinated effort of the Ocean City Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Committee, the Worcester County Health Department and the Town of Ocean City. It is a community wide project that involves a partnership of health, education, law enforcement, business, service organizations and volunteers. With a core grant from the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention and donations from many local businesses and caring citizens, this project has been able to grow stronger every year.

Ocean City is a great place to visit, to have great fun and to make wonderful graduation memories. One important objective for the Play It Safe program is to promote an injury-free June for visiting High School grads. We encourage all high school grads who are planning to come to Ocean City for Senior Week to get a Play It Safe booklet from their high school or pick one up here in Ocean City. Check out the events, plan to attend them and be sure to bring your booklet with you! Pick up a wristband to ride the city bus all week – FREE. With everyone working together, your graduation vacation to Ocean City will be enjoyable and filled with outstanding memories. We, the Play It Safe committee, look forward to meeting you at one of our awesome graduation events!

Ocean City Maryland – Steamed Crabs at the Beach

April 12th, 2010

Ocean City, Maryland

Steamed Crabs at The Beach- How to pick ‘em & eat ‘em

EATING CRABS in Ocean City Maryland…A place where adults are actually encouraged to wear a bib, eat with their hands, get food all over the place, pound on the table with a hammer, throw their leftovers in a pile, make an absolute mess…and have a great old time doing so...

Here are a few tips’…

  • Don’t worry about the mess.
  • Don’t rub your eyes until you have thoroughly washed your hands with soap and water.
  • Have fun and enjoy the experience, because that is what it is, AN EXPERIENCE, and maybe a cold beer.

1. Tools: All you need are a mallet, a dull knife, and plenty of old newspaper to cover your table.

2. Remove the front claws and put them aside as you will come back to them later. Lots of good meat in the claws.

3. Pull off the rest of the legs: Sometimes, you get lucky and some crab meat pulls out with them. Just enjoy it.

4. Open the apron:  Pull up the apron on the bottom of the crab and break it off.

5. Open the crab: You can now easily pull the hard shell off of the top of the crab.

6. Clean the crab out by using dull knife. Scrape out and discard anything that does not look appealing to you – the yellow “mustard” and the lungs.
Break the crab body in half…

7. Break in half: You are now down to the main part of the crab. Simply grasp it in both hands and break it in half to expose the sweet crab meat.

8. The crab meat: can be found in all of the little nooks and crannies of the Maryland Hard Crab. This is the finest tasting Maryland Seafood anywhere.

What is mallet used for? Use the mallet to crack the claws. And use the dull knife  to scrape out and discard anything that does not look appealing and helps to pull the crab meat out from all the little nooks and crannies.

Happy Eating from Ocean City Maryland.
